CAA-NRC opposition rally reaches Gujarat, Ahmedabad bandh today
While protests have swept across the country, including Delhi, on the issue of citizenship research bill, the protest rally has now reached Gujarat. Minority organizations on Thursday announced the Ahmedabad ban, which has been endorsed by other voluntary organizations, including the Bhim Army, which will not only abide by Ahmedabad but other cities. However, in the wake of the ban, Gujarat police have issued orders to stay alert. Special care shall be taken not to cause any untoward incident. In addition, intensive police arrangements are being made to monitor the situation in sensitive areas of the state.
The bill was heavily opposed in the Northeast
From Meghalaya-Assam to Delhi, the NRC-CAA bill is being opposed. Various institutions and students have also joined in protest against this bill in Gujarat for the last three days. Even today, NSUI protested in Ahmedabad. The minority organizations besides the minority rights forum on Thursday announced the Ahmedabad bandh tomorrow and appealed to religious leaders, legislators as well as social leaders to join the people in this voluntary dam.
Whose support?
The closure has also been endorsed by the Ahmedabad Rickshaw Association so that the rickshaw will not be seen on the city roads on Thursday. People are being appealed through social media to go viral and engage in voluntary closure. For the last two days, the meeting of various institutions in the city was frozen. It was finally announced that the Ahmedabad bandh was announced on 7th May. Following Ahmedabad Dam, cities and towns including Shahera, Godhra, Lunawada, Kheralu, Mehmedabad, Vadodara have also been found to be closed.
Voluntary organizations will also join
The dam has been endorsed by other NGOs besides Bhim Army-Gujarat. Meanwhile, MLA Jeejosh Mewani has announced that protests will be held by hoisting a copy of the NRC-CAA bill in six villages in Vadagam constituency. Gujarat police has been alerted to the ban. Tight police arrangements will be made in sensitive areas of the city. In addition, social media is being marketed. It is worth mentioning that, while the Gujarat government has already prepared to implement the NRC-CAA bill, the government-police have been active in preventing any untoward incident during this shutdown.
